The Lakota East men’s Varsity cross country team had very respectable showings at the OHSAA Early Season Invitational this past Saturday at Fortress Obetz Sports Complex. Both teams improved on their 2021 team placings at this meet.
The men’s team set out with a goal of placing in the top 10 at this extremely competitive event this season, and that is exactly what they did. The Thunderhawk men placed 10th out of a 44-team field. The Hawks were led by freshman phenom Reilly Meyer, who ran an incredible debut performance of 17:22.4 which placed him 59th in a 381-runner field. Sophomore, Evan Aponte, was the next runner for East to cross the line, closely behind Meyer. Aponte ran a near personal record time of 17:24 to place 62nd overall. Senior, Marshall Novean, helped the Hawks to get a good start off the line which set up the entire race for the team. Novean finished in 73rd place with a time of 17:39. Sophomore Blake Gibbs (76th, 17:40 PR) and senior, Ian Balfour (96th, 17:55 PR) rounded out the scoring for Lakota East
