The boys cross country team started the day hot at the Southwest District Championship. Senior Blake Gibbs put the area on notice, charging to a 9th place finish with a lifetime best of 15:46.1 for 5k, good enough to make him the 6th fastest cross country runner in Lakota East history. Senior Evan Aponte and freshman Jacob Turner both turned in huge PRs on the day. Senior Luke Huggins came up big when it mattered most for the Hawks, surging late in the race to a 24 second PR, and helping secure a fourth place team finish. Elijah Grissom and Evan Watterson also contributed lifetime PRs.
Gibbs, Meyer, Aponte, Turner, Huggins, Grissom, and Watterson will represent their school at the Regional Championships next Saturday at Troy with a birth at the State Championships on the line.
