Lakota East Boys Soccer kicked off their Greater Miami Conference (GMC) campaign with an impressive 3-1 victory over Fairfield. The Thunderhawks showed their quality in both attack and defense, with key contributions from several standout players.
The match started on a high note for East as Juan Bartolon-Perez opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a spectacular diving header, thanks to a pinpoint cross from Owen Wagner. Fairfield responded quickly, leveling the match in the 18th minute with a well-placed free kick just outside the box.
However, East regained the lead in the 24th minute when Chris Mfuranzima found the back of the net with a precise shot from the top of the box, assisted by Shaun Dickerson. The Thunderhawks held on to their 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Fairfield had a golden opportunity to equalize just two minutes into the second half when they were awarded a penalty kick, but East goalkeeper Nick Maslin came up big with a crucial save to keep his team in front.
East sealed the victory in the 59th minute when Shaun Dickerson broke free on a one-on-one with the Fairfield keeper, slotting the ball home after a brilliant assist from Juan Bartolon-Perez.
With this win, Lakota East's record improves to 2-1-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the GMC. The Thunderhawks will look to continue their momentum in their next match on Thursday, September 5th, when they hit the road to take on Oak Hills.
