Cohen finishes a brilliant career with 109 wins. He was a two time district placer, state qualifier, and one victory away from placing in the top 8 at the state tournament. He is the perfect example of a Thunderhawk wrestler. Humble, hard working, smart, and a multiple sport athlete.
Demetrius Stanley Jr had a great weekend of wrestling. Demetrius lost to EJ German from Brecksville Broadview Heights in the first round on Friday. He beat Gage Courts from Marysville on Friday night to advance in the consolation round. He then beat Lucas Strusburg from Moeller with a pin in overtime to earn a top 8 finish. Down 7-3 late in the next match, Demetrius threw his opponent from Olentangy with 23 seconds left on the clock to earn a 10-7 victory and ensure a top 6 finish. DJ lost his next match to a district champion from Toledo St. John’s Jesuit. This placed DJ in the 5th place match for a rematch against EJ German from Brecksville Broadview Heights. DJ wrestled with great determination and pinned German in 2:33 to earn his 5th place medal.
In just three seasons DJ has accomplished a great many things. State placer, two time state qualifier, two time district placer, two time sectional champion, two time GMC champion, and captain of the team his senior year.
DJ and Cohen have both have a legacy that will influence EAST wrestling for many years to come.
