The East Girls Basketball team added a huge win to their record on Wednesday, defeating visiting Mason 52-48. The Comets and the Hawks entered the contest with unblemished GMC records. It marks the 2nd time East has defeated Mason in the last three meetings and extends the Hawks winning streak to 5 games.
The game was a hard-fought battle but the game-changer was the Thunderhawks going 90% from the FT line.
East put together a 14-3 run and led 26-15 with 4:44 left in the 2nd quarter. The Comets battled back and led by 3 in the third quarter.
It was the Thunderhawks who made their shots when it counted, though. Lakota East hit 9 of 10 from the line in the final quarter, including Brooke Asher’s four to seal it.
Senior, Madison French finished with 18 points, alongside Senior teammate, Savannah Smith, who finished with 13 points. Celina Blount had 5 points and 7 rebounds and Katlyn Pham put up 8 points.
The Hawks (6-1, 3-0) are back at home tonight with another GMC match-up against Sycamore. The game will be part of a varsity doubleheader. The girls play at 5:30 and the boys tip off at approx. 7:30.
