The Lakota East women’s cross country team started off the season on a hot, steamy Saturday at Fortress Obetz in Columbus, the home of the State Championships in November. The Hawk women placed 31st out of 42 teams.
The top Thunderhawk was junior, Jocey Willis, who placed 71st overall in a strong field of 371 runners. Her time was 21:20 for the 5k (3.1-mile) course. Senior, Sarah Renfro was the 2nd Lady Hawk across the line, placing 163rd overall in 22:41. Senior, Dani Thorner was not far behind Renfro in 175th place in a time of 22:51. Junior, Hope Keith was the #4 runner for East, crossing the finish line in 222nd place in 23:44. And rounding out the scoring for the Hawks was sophomore, Brooke Wilson, who placed 257th in 24:14.
Lakota East cross country’s full squad will be back in action next Saturday in their home meet, the Lakota East Fall Classic at Voice of America Park. The Junior High teams start racing at 8:00 a.m., followed by the High School teams at 9:00 a.m.
