The Hawks took on GMC and cross-town rival Lakota West on Thursday evening.
The Firebirds got on the board early in the first half and took a 1-0 lead. The Hawks mounted some pressure but we were unable to score as the half ended 1-0.
The second half saw the Hawks apply pressure across the board on relentless runs which culminated in 10 corners.
Senior Captain Sophia Perrino found the head of Senior teammate Erica Cox on a corner service. Cox snuck it past the West keeper for the tying goal with roughly six minutes left in the match.
Shortly after, once play restarted, Sophomore Jessa Bush struck a low driver towards the West goal. Senior Erica Cox was making a crossing run and redirected the shot at the top of the box. The West keeper was caught off guard and the goal garnered a 2-1 lead for the Hawks.
The final minute of the match saw an intense push by both teams in a classic East-West matchup. At the final buzzer, the Thunderhawks held off the rival Firebirds by a final score of 2-1.
Senior keepers Lucy Carlin and Woody Carman split time in the net for the Thunderhawks both making some phenomenal saves.

The Thunderhawks made the two-hour trek down to Louisville to face off with Sacred Heart Academy (SHA). SHA is one of the most highly decorated programs in Kentucky High School history. Having won several State and mythical National titles over the years.
In the end, SHA was too dominant for the Hawks and came away with a 2-0 victory. While a disappointing loss, the level of competition, week in and week out, will hopefully prove beneficial in the long run.
The loss was the first shutout suffered this year by the Hawks (3-5, 1-1).
East returns to action at home on Tuesday versus GMC opponent Sycamore.
