Softball Thrashes West

Amber Munoz collected three hits in five at bats, as Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks defeated Lakota West 12-5 on Tuesday. Munoz hit a home run to center field in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the seventh inning.
 
Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks got on the board in the top of the first inning after Lyla Gully induced Abrie Schulte to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Karli Damen drew a walk, scoring one run, and Yorie Schulte singled, scoring two runs.
 
Lakota West captured the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the third after Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks committed an error, Ava Gilber singled to center field, Reagan Dornan singled to the left side of the infield, and , each scoring one run.
 
Haley Thompson singled to the left side of the infield, which helped Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks tie the game at five in the top of the fourth.
 
Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs on six hits to take the lead, 11-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to center field by Munoz that drove in three.
 
Damen earned the win for Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks. The right-handed pitcher allowed five hits and five runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking one. Gilber took the loss for Lakota West. The reliever went four innings, surrendering seven runs (two earned) on seven hits, striking out three and walking one. Gully began the game for Lakota West. The starter gave up three hits and four runs over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking three. Kaleigh Crawford tossed three innings of shutout ball for Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks in relief. The reliever gave up zero hits, striking out four and walking none.
 
Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks piled up 14 hits in the game. Munoz and Thompson were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks while hitting back-to-back. Maddie Offner collected two hits for Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks in four at bats. Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks had patience at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game.
 
Dornan, Lakota West's number eight hitter, led the team with two hits in two at-bats. Gilber, Liz Meyer, and Dornan each drove in one run for Lakota West. Bellea Lucas and Elie Albright each stole multiple bases for Lakota West. Lakota West stole five bases in the game. Lakota West turned one double play in the game.
 
Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks play at home on Wednesday against Middletown in their next game.

East falls at Mason 11-1 to suffer their first loss of the season.
